Industrial Wastewater Applications: Municipal Waste

Solid Waste

Solid municipal waste can be treated by Wehrle using our Mechanical-Biological Technology, incorporating the BIOPERCOLAT® - process.

Mechanical and biological treatment of municipal waste has been established as a concept of handling household and industrial wastes. Mechanical treatment enables the recovery of recyclable waste whilst also helping with removing damaging materials. The biological process aims to degrade the organic fraction of the waste to a stable end product through fermentation and rotting processes. The final maturation produces a depositable residual waste. The drying process reduces the moisture content of the waste and facilitates the subsequent separation of the waste (solid recovered fuels and inert residual material).

Effluent from the fermentation stage of the BIOPERCOLAT® process is, in the most part, reused as process water in the process. The remaining part undergoes further aerobic treatment (SBR Technology or MBR Technology) to remove organic contaminants or nitrogen compounds. A part of this treated water can be remixed with the process water or discharged to the local watercourse or sewer.
