UTE HORNILLOS place order for treatment of wastewater originating from a Composting Plant in Valencia, Spain

The Spanish consortium UTE HORNILLOS (consisting of Sufi S.A., Cyes and Corporación F. Turia) have decided to entrust Wehrle with the construction of a wastewater treatment plant for water originating from a composting plant in Quart de Poblet, Valencia, Spain.

The plant is designed for a hydraulic capacity of 125 m³/day, the highly contaminated wastewater influent is characterized by a COD of 20.000 mg/l and an ammonia concentration of 3.200 mg/l NH4-N.

Wehrle will construct a BIOMEMBRAT® Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) plant, consisting of separate zones for nitrification and denitrification and an ultrafiltration membrane unit for the separation and retention of biomass. A subsequent reverse osmosis system will reduce conductivity and chloride concentration to such a level that the effluent quality is adequate for direct discharge.

Commissioning of the plant will take place in March 2010.
