About PTT
PTT Public Co., Ltd. is the largest oil company in Thailand with more than 10.000 employees. It also is the biggest energy firm in Thailand and the biggest listed company with a market value of US$ 20 Billion. PTT runs Thailand’s gas pipeline monopoly and controls more than 30 petroleum, gas exploration, petrochemical and refinery businesses - and that in a country that almost exclusively produces its electricity by using natural gas.
Currently, the firm is improving its position within the South East Asian oil and energy market through strategic acquisitions.
About the project
PTT needs a comprehensive waste water treatment plant, or CWWTP for short, at the PTT Rayong Gas Separation Plant in Mab Ta Phut, Rayong, Thailand. The CWWP shall be able to treat the effluent coming from different PTT Units:
- the existing Gas Separation Plants GSP-1 to GSP-5,
- the Rayong pipeline facilities
- a product storage area
- the new Ethane Separation Plant and GSP-6 facilities
After a very demanding prequalification procedure which was followed by a difficult tender process and hard negotiations, against strong international competitors, PTT finally placed the order with a consortium of Wehrle´s cooperation partner E-Square and Nawarat - a leading construction company in Thailand. Wehrle will participate as a subcontractor of E-Square/Nawarat in this project.
The effluent, with a approximate total flow of 400 m³/day, will be pre-treated using Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF), followed by an Advanced Oxidation Process (AOP) for cracking hard to biodegrade substances. The main removal of pollutants will take place in the Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) designed by Wehrle.
The treated waste water needs to comply with the strict discharge requirements defined by the Ministry of Industry in Thailand and also the requirements for recycling of water for use on site.
About the new GSP-6 facility
"With an aim to add value to natural gas from the third gas transmission pipeline, PTT plans to construct the Gas Separation Plant Unit 6 or GSP#6 to optimize natural resources, and the product such as Ethane will deliver as main raw material for Ethane Cracker Project. GSP#6 with size of 800-MMSCFD has a production capacity of 10,829 tons per day of sales gas, 2,218 tons per day of Ethane, 608 tons per days of natural gasoline and 2,498 tons per day of Liquefied Petroleum Gas or LPG (at max LPG mode). Through further LPG separation process, Propane and Butane can be produced at 1,846 and 1,102 tons per day respectively. The Gas Separation Plant unit 6 will be located in the same compound as other units of Rayong Gas Separation Plant units in Mab Ta Phut Subdistrict, Rayong Province."
