Wehrle Supplies RO Plant to Morocco for advanced treatment of landfill leachate

Wehrle has received an order for a reverse osmosis (RO) plant for the advanced treatment of biologically treated landfill leachate for the Pizzorno Environment Group in Morocco.

In Morocco and across North North Africa, there are many new landfill sites, constructed to the new stringent European standards. To meet European specifications these dumps receive a base sealing and a leachate collecting system. The leachates are highly loaded though, and the different waste composition compared with central Europe provides a significant challenge for treatment systems.

The new landfill site in Al Hoceima is due to go into operation in October, 2008. Wehrle has received the order to supply an RO membrane filtration plant. The decision was made in favour of Wehrle, as an economic and mobile system could be offered, pre-tested and installed in a standard container. This means that on site assembly works are reduced to a minimum.

Wehrle designed the containerised RO system because post-treatment of the biologically pretreated leachate was required. The inflow concentrations of 15,000 mg/l COD are reduced by approximately 96 %, 600 mg/l NH4-N by 100 % and 5,000 mg/l Cl by 93 %.
