In spring 2010 Wehrle received an order for the planning, construction and commissioning of a wastewater treatment plant in Mataró (near Barcleona), Spain, at the Centro integral de Valorización de residuos del Maresme. The customer is TEM-UTE Constructora, a consortium consisting of various companies including Sufi S.A. With this third order in the metropolitan region of Barcelona, Wehrle again demonstrates its leading position in the field of MBR wastewater treatment plants.

The mechanical-biological waste treatment plant (MBT) in Mataró is designed for a capacity of 277,300 t/a. The Wehrle plant concept includes a multi-stage process to treat the highly loaded wastewater. The aim is reuse of treated wastewater in the fermentation process; the rest of the non-utilised wastewater will be treated to such a level that the effluent quality is adequate for direct discharge.

Wehrle will construct a BIOMEMBRAT® membrane bioreactor (MBR) plant with an external membrane system to further treat this wastewater. The plant is designed for a wastewater influent of 180 m ³/day and a COD concentration of approx. 10,000 mg/l. The ammonium nitrogen inlet concentration is 1800 mg/l, with a conductivity of 16,000 µS/cm.

Commissioning of the plant will take place in March 2011.
