Technologies: Wehrle MBR-LS

The Wehrle MBR-LS (also known as the BIOMEMBRAT®-Airlift) process is suitable for the treatment of weak wastewaters, such as municipal wastewater, black and gray wastewater from ships, wastewater from laundries, the catering trades, and hotels, as well as groundwater treatment.

Activated sludge from the bioreactor is pumped, at a reduced flow, through external membrane modules that are mounted vertically in parallel. This low flow, as well as the continuous or intermittent addition of air at the inlet to the modules, provides the necessary turbulence at the membrane surface. The removal of the treated effluent is enabled by the pressure of the feed flow and a slight vacuum placed on the permeate.

Because of it's flexibility this process offers the best solution for the cost effective treatment of wastewater with a high degree of flow variation. It is possible to overcome peaks in flow simply by adjusting the speed of the recirculation pumps. This avoids the cost intensive approach of installing spare membrane capacity.

Wehrle MBR-HS is the optimal process for low loaded wastewaters as a high filtration capacity can be obtained with low investment, energy and membrane replacement costs. The external arrangement of membranes offers fast and easy installation possibilities.
