Industrial Wastewater Applications: Drinks and Beverages

In the drinks and beverages industry various process technologies are required to treat wastewater with high COD, suspended solids and organic loadings. Depending on the specific site conditions and the treated effluent requirements, unit process technologies typically selected by Wehrle on a food wastewater project would include Equalisation, pH Control, Dissolved Air Flotation and MBR technology, the Wehrle MBR-HS process specifically.

The Wehrle MBR process can also be used for the treatment of whisky distillery waste and rinsing water, as outlined in the following case study:

Whisky Distillery Waste and Rinsing Water Treatment Case Study: Chivas Brothers, UK
In this case study we describe the new wastewater treatment facility at the Chivas Brothers Glenallachie Distillery on Speyside near Aberlour in North East Scotland. Commissioned in Autumn 2008, the system by Wehrle Environmental comprises an advanced membrane bioreactor (MBR) treatment system incorporating cross-flow ultrafiltration (UF) technology. It includes a two-stage cascading bioreactor system capable of treating all liquid waste from the site prior to discharge of high quality permeate to the local burn...
