Technologies: Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF)

Wehrle utilises dissolved air flotation (DAF) technology as an effective pre-treatment system typically installed prior to membrane bioreactor (MBR) systems. DAF clarifies wastewater by the removal of suspended matter such as gross solids as well as fats, oils and greases (FOGs).

The removal is achieved by dissolving air in the wastewater under pressure and then releasing the solution at atmospheric pressure in a flotation tank or basin. The released air forms tiny bubbles which adhere to the suspended matter causing it to float to the surface where it is then removed by an integrated skimming device.

DAF is very widely used in treating industrial effluents from a range of applications including petrochemical and chemical plants, dairy and food processing sites, natural gas processing plants and paper mills.
